New French Breathalyzer Requirement For Tourists

We have just learned that a new French Law has come in to affect requiring all cars, domestic and foreign driving in France to require “at least one” personal breathalyzer after July 1.

Apparently this has sent the price of them soaring in France. Whilst the stubborn Brit in me is like ‘nah, lets not bother and blag it’, after all the effort we’ve put in, me learning to drive, sorting out sponsors etc, it would seem stupid if we actually did get detained over such a trivial item!

The list of mandatory items to carry in your vehicle when driving in France is :

Passport
Driving License
Originals of Vehicle Insurance, Vehicle Registration (V5), Current MOT certificate
Hi-Viz Florescent Jacket or Vest
GB Sticker
Warning Triangle
Headlight beam deflectors
Breathalyzer

France doesn’t actually require a First Aid Kit, but Germany does!

So, other Rallyers, are you going to be taking a breathalyzer with you???

Car Gear

Car Stuff

One of the guys I work with, also called Russ, is awesome at car things and plane things and has recommended a pretty comprehensive equipment list for us to take with us!

  • Fan belt x2
  • Spark plugs
  • Air filter x 2
  • Coil pack
  • Clutch cable (if car has it)
  • self amalagmating tape
  • exhaust paste
  • insulation tape
  • cable ties
  • tyre weld
  • rad weld
  • fuses 5 of each
  • bulbs set
  • extra headlight bulbs
  • wire
  • warning triangle
  • reflective jackets
  • tools
  • spark plugs spanner
  • cheap multi meter
  • pliers and cutters
  • mole grip
  • metric spanners
  • screwdriver set

As you can see from the picture, I think we’ve sorted it all. Russ swore that it would pack down in to a really tiny box .. I’m not so sure 🙂 I’ve no idea how to use any of it though, but in principle we’ve now got enough kit so that anyone that does know what they’re doing could help us and we can lend some to anyone in need!

Amazing Flow Toys Donation

I got to work today and there was a package waiting on my desk, all the way from America!

Amazing Package

Amazing Package

Unwrapping it was a lot of fun, double wrapped super strong white magical fabric paper, my tiger strength wasn’t working so I actually had to resort to scissors. Foiled by fabric!

Argh super strong white fabric material of the Gods!

The amazing people at flowtoys have donated us some glow staffs and glow poi! Legends. The plan is to take them with us on the trip and busk our way around half the planet to raise money for orphans.

Flowtoys staffs, poi and handles!!

Second Rabies Vaccination

Just been to the Sussex Travel Clinic for my second rabies vaccination! Feeling a bit poop but it had to be done!

Apparently I need to go back in 2 more weeks for my 3rd and final rabies vaccination and my 2nd and final tick encephalitis vaccination!

This will have totaled £250 worth of vaccinations and 7 injections specifically for this trip!!

Gotta Catch ‘Em All!

Woohooo. The invincible VISA Machine have successfully conquered the Mongolian embassy, the Russian embassy and the Kazakhstan embassy and got my passport and VISAs back to me 48 hours before I fly out to Boston, USA!!! Those guys are fantastic and totally took all the hassle out of what could have been a very scary and lengthy process! Now I just hope the other 2 get their applications sorted else it will be a pretty lonely journey!!!

Tick Encephalitis And Rabies Vaccination Level 1

Tick Encephalitis

Tick Encephalitis Distribution

I’ve just taken a trip to the Sussex Travel Clinic to get the first of my tick encephalitis and Rabies vaccinations. Mongolia is a hot spot for tick encephalitis and we need 3 vaccinations to be immune! There has also been a recent case of a Rabies death in the UK from a tourist that went to India and was licked by a dog.

Rabies treatment is completely insane if you’re not vaccinated, usually requiring a blood transfer from someone that has previously been vaccinated, which if not screened properly carries a risk of Hep C and HIV, so it’s worth getting done. Tick Encephalitis is really easy to catch but not very fatal, however mucking around just isn’t worth it especially as not having vaccinations can often invalid medical / travel insurance!
